Hawthorn West Primary School 350 schools action

October 21st, 2009

Last term the Grade 1/2’s studied the environment and learnt different ways they can help the environment and the world reduce it’s carbon emissions. This morning some of the Grade 1/2 classes at Hawthorn West Primary School formed a human sign of the magic number “350”. A photo was taken of the children holding up their pictures they had created about how we can help our environment.
The significance of the number 350 was explained to the children, that scientists believe this is upper limit of carbon that is safe in the atmosphere and that all the things that they are doing at home and at school will help reach this number. The photo was taken to be sent to the world leaders in Copenhagen to encourage them to reach a global agreement on climate change and decide on 350 as the global target.hawthorn west

October 21st, 2009

I want to let you know that our school is planning some actions at 12.15pm
on Friday the 23rd October.
350 activities: A big banner hanging down the front of the building, people
forming 350 and taking a picture, 350 people doing the LIMBO!, face
painting and handing out jelly babies with a note reading “how can you
look your children in the eye and say i knew about this and did nothing”
to get people thinking.

Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti is situated in the Christchurch City Mall and so
is a great place to get the public’s attention with bright colours, lots
of people and music!
